St. Andrew’s United Church Cumberland
Statement of Faith
This Statement of Faith represents the collective faith of the congregants of St. Andrew’s United Church Cumberland. It is not all inclusive, but contains those spiritual values that are integral to our church faith, life and community.
- We believe in the United Church of Canada doctrine that formed the Basis of Union in 1925.
- We follow the theology expressed in the King James Version of the Bible.
- We affirm the Holy Trinity of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
- We confess the transcendence of God and affirm the truth that God is high, is lifted up and is above us.
- We accept God as Father and Lord.
- We confirm the theology that God is "Creator, “Redeemer”, “Sustainer," and a Christology that Christ is our “Saviour” and “Redeemer”, fully God and man and that the Holy Spirit is our “Comforter” and “Paraclete”.
- We believe that anyone, regardless of age, circumstance or faith is welcome to worship with us and deserves our charity, fellowship and respect.
- We celebrate the sacrament of marriage as the union of a man and a woman.
- We celebrate the sacrament of baptism as the promise one makes to live and grow in the Christian faith, or in the case of an infant, of the parent’s promise to raise and teach them the lessons and ways of Jesus Christ.
- We celebrate the sacrament of Communion with the bread and wine representing the body and blood of Jesus Christ who died to take away our sins.
