Happy Holidays to you and your
family!!
We have had a very busy November and December!
In November we took part in the Lions Santa Claus Parade. We had
a great time with all 20 children on the float waving and trying
to stay in one place for such a long time. It was the first float
we had created, special Thanks to Jen and Dave Sabourin, Wendy
Brown, Shawn Thompson for helping bring the float to life, and
what do you know we won a Prize Of Merit. A special thank you
to Cancurb, Costumes Unlimited, Majic Midways and Barley Mow
for their sponsorship.
We had a very informative general meeting Nov.25, 03. Our guest
speakers included Lynn Carson - Nepean Housing Corporation, Norm
MacDonald -our re-elected Public School Board Trustee, June Flynn-Turner
- our re-elected Catholic School Board Trustee. Not only did we
get some useful information from these guest speakers but they
were impressed with our turn out. They have expressed interest
in working with us on issues that pertain to their positions.
In November we took on
an idea generated by Renee Young, a ten year old girl from our
community " to help people in need
during the holidays". From this idea we started the Adopt
A Family Program. To support this program we held a Craft and Bake
Sale. It being our first was a great success. So much so that next
year we will have to have a bigger building. Thank you to all the
vendors for participating and those of you that came to support
the event. A special thanks to Carol Kelly and Wendy Brown for
organizing the event and doing a great job!!
December was a very busy month for us as we hosted a Breakfast
With Santa. Residents came through in a big way and brought a lot
of non-perishable food items, clothing, and toys that would in
the end help to fill the baskets we gave to the families we supported
with our Adopt A Family Program. The children that attended the
breakfast all received a toy filled stocking which was made possible
by the generosity of Phil and Zoi Hahn.
Special thanks to the SCA executive for their help in putting on
this event.
Lastly, we delivered the baskets to the families that were in
need. The looks of appreciation were too much to put into words.
These looks were what made it all come down to one point ; we are
a very kind and generous community who know how to take care of
their neighbours.Thank you to all who donated to these baskets
Our next general meeting will be Jan. 27, 04.
Stay tuned for more information on our Winter Carnival Feb.21,
04
Hope we can achieve as much next year as we did this year!
Sincerely Yours
Tanya Thompson
