President's Newsletter
Hello everyone. Thank you for being so patient with the new executive. We
greatly appreciate it. As a new board we have been extremely
busy.
With only ten weeks to plan and organize,
the SCA pulled off the unbelievable. Not only did the SCA host
the "Southpointe
Fall Fun Fair" but we raised $7000 in doing so. That is
an incredible display in itself of how dedicated we are as
a board to our community. We had tremendous support from local
businesses but more importantly we had to support of you the
community. Without a strong community we could not have achieved
such a huge success. We hope to see you again next year. We
promise it will be bigger and better!
As many of you have noticed, the media has been reporting
on the rise in crime in Barrhaven. Not only have we noticed
but we have taken action. For those of you who could not make
our last general meeting we are attempting to launch a Neighborhood
Program in our community. We need a strong show of support
to take this from the planning phase and moving it into action.
If you are interested in signing up for this program please
contact us at SCA-ExecutiveCommittee-owner@yahoogroups.com
With our responsibilities to the community come the management
of the outdoor rinks. For those of you new to the SCA we run
two rinks one which is located at Core Park and the other being
the rink at Stonecrest Park. In order for us to run the rinks
effectively we rely on volunteers. We will be having a meeting
for the rink volunteers on October 28 @ 8:00pm. The meeting
will be held at the Community Building located next to Adrienne
Clarkson. We encourage anyone who would like to help out to
come to this meeting. To get more information on the rinks
program, please mail us at SCA-RinkOperations-owner@yahoogroups.com
For an association to survive we need to pool together our
resources. In saying that I mean that we need more people to
come aboard as active members. I believe that an association
should tackle important issues that pertain to everyone. My
only worries are that we are missing on some of them because
we don't have a someone bringing them forward. Please join
the SCA and help us help you with what is important to you
and to your neighbors. This is a plea to ask for more members
as 10 voices are heard over just 1 and we have the volume in
Southpointe to be heard if we just pull together.
