German submarine U-673 was a Turm VI “Flak-trap” VIIC U-boat that was a testbed for different AA configurations. An AA platform was added to the front of the conning tower, and various AA guns were located on it. After less than successful trials, the AA platform was removed and the boat was returned to its original VIIC configuration. Having already gained an interest in U-boats with my build of U-625, I was eager to begin a new, unique project. I chose to model this particular U-boat as it caught my interest when I was researching the various types/styles of flak-boots. The Revell of Germany VIIC/41 kit was the perfect platform for creating U-673, though close work with aftermarket companies (particularly Nautilus Models) would be required to obtain the proper accessory kits and deck.
