10. Final Thoughts

U‑625 holds special significance to my family, and as such I undertook this project with great pride and respect. This model project also brought me out of a 12‑year modeling hiatus, and involved several members of my family who did a great deal of research to gather the scarce details available on this particular U‑boat. I would also like to thank all the members of the model boat community, aftermarket companies, and my local hobby shops for all their wonderful help.

The Revell VIIC kit is simply fantastic and is rated as a “level 5” (on a scale of 1–5) meaning it is intended for advanced modellers. The molding is crisp and clean, there is a minimum of excess flash, and all parts fit well together with minimal problems. Putting a bit of extra effort into building this kit — and perhaps drawing upon the plethora of excellent aftermarket products — is sure to give every modeller a great opportunity for creating a work of art. I am already planning several more U‑boat projects based on Revell kits.

During this project I learned a great deal about German U‑boats, developed new modeling skills, and had a chance to give something back to my father, Frank Cauley, who means the world to me.
