Campaign '97 NDP Campaign Manager in the previously Liberal riding of Halifax West, for Gordon Earle. Managed a staff of 8, supervised production of 3 leaflets, a Web Page and other printed literature, wrote speeches and briefed the candidate for media appearances and All Candidates Debates, supervised the voter contact effort and overall campaign strategy, and maintained liaison with the central campaign and Leader's Tour. COMDOR Logo COMDOR Engineering, where I developed an MS Access application to maintain income, expense and tax records for the family business. MAA Logo B.C. Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs Treaty Communications (South Interior) with one of the province's five treaty negotiating teams. Responsible for media relations, publications, public information meetings, tripartite communication planning with Canada and First Nations, news releases, briefing notes and speeches. [1995-96]

BC Crest MLAs' Task Force Report on the closure of CFB Chilliwack and associated implications for Emergency Preparedness in B.C. and the Provincial Emergency Program. Provided research, prepared lines of questioning for this bi-partisan task force of MLAs, and drafted their report to the Premier. [1995]

Canada Logo Literature Review for the St. Lawrence Vision 2000 program of the Environmental Health Directorate at Health Canada, in which I compiled a bibliography of human and animal studies into the neurobehavioural effects of environmental contaminants, and reviewed the findings on PCBs. [1995]

  • a preliminary study for Health Canada and the Schizophrenia Society to estimate the economic costs of schizophrenia in Canada [1995]


  • the firm's successful lobby to include a new schizophrenia medication in Ontario's formulary [1994]


  • a project for Indian & Northern Affairs Canada on the "status" of indian status in light of Bill C-31 and the political recognition of the inherent right of self government [1994]


  • the firm's review of the 4th round of hearings for the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples [1994]
  • INAC Logo Federal NDP Caucus on Parliament Hill, where I worked for Bob Skelly, M.P., his party's critic for Indian & Northern Affairs Canada and a member of the House Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs; during a time of unprecedented national attention to issues like the Oka Stand-off and Constitutional Negotiations [1988-1993].

    I was his Legislative Assistant & Press Secretary, responsible for preparing lines of questioning and speech notes; briefing the M.P., other Caucus members, and the Federal Party Leader; liaison with aboriginal political organizations; handling media relations; drafting policy correspondence; and resolving constituents' problems with federal government agencies.

    I also served as Executive Assistant to Jack Harris (M.P. St. John's East) [1987-88] and Legislative Assistant to Cyril Keeper (M.P. Winnipeg North Centre; Canada Post Critic) [1985-86].

    Studied political theory, Canadian politics and economic history, women's studies, labour history and industrial relations, sociology, computer science. Carleton Logo In 1994-95, I spent a sabbatical year taking courses in the Psychology Department, studying the biological foundations of behaviour, social and cognitive psychology, the Internet, research methods and statistics, and human neuropsychology.


    Interests

    Jazz Jazz, cooking, the daily bridge column, walks by the ocean, other people's children, science magazines, adult computer literacy. Have recently mastered the Cryptic crossword puzzle in the weekend Globe & Mail, but still working on the weekday version. Reported to have a mild competitive streak in cards and certain board games.
